Trump’s Easter Egg Rant

Trumps Easter Egg Rant

Amanda Castro, Reporter

It is safe to assume that during Holy Week our president would simply honor the occasion and wish everyone a happy Easter. President Trump, however, is not one safe for assumption.

Instead of taking a three-day break from political business, President Trump took a rant on immigration to Twitter, saying:

“Border Patrol Agents are not allowed to properly do their job at the Border because of ridiculous liberal (Democrat) laws like Catch & Release. Getting more dangerous. ‘Caravans’ coming. Republicans must go to Nuclear Option to pass tough laws NOW. NO MORE DACA DEAL! and “Mexico is doing very little, if not NOTHING, at stopping people from flowing into Mexico through their Southern Border, and then into the U.S. They laugh at our dumb immigration laws. They must stop the big drug and people flows, or I will stop their cash cow, NAFTA. NEED WALL!”

But it did not end there. On Easter Sunday, before President Trump greeted and spoke to the children waiting on the South Lawn for the White House Egg Roll on Monday, he spoke to reporters about his views on ending DACA. Minutes later, he addressed an audience full of children and their parents about his plans to dismantle Obama-era immigration policies.

Yes, unlike previous presidents, Trump took a different approach to the sacred holiday by shutting down any prospects for saving the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA) and railing against Mexico. The president also spent time bragging about the military before returning his misinformed rant about DACA.

The tone of the President’s holiday tweets starkly differ from the sentiments of goodwill commonly expressed by previous U.S. presidents on national or religious occasions. Though these behaviors wholly match the President’s personality, it is still surprising to witness such division on a holiday like Easter. And let’s not forget, these schismatic chats occurred at an event for children.
