Ouroboros: The 2020 Senior Art Show
February 20, 2020
Tonight, the Osceola County School for the Arts (OCSA) Visual Art Department seniors and alumni will showcase their pieces at City Arts, Orlando.
Traditionally, the City Arts showcase is referred to as the Senior Art Show, as it is the time that Senior Visual Artists showcase their work. This year, the gallery is open to both current seniors and OCSA Visual Arts alumni. Mrs. Calderon stated that she kept in contact with a few alumni and “six had found time to submit pieces for City Arts.” Of those six, two students had graduated from OCSA in 2009, a year before the Visual Arts Department had begun engaging in the City Arts Showcase.
Alongside the six alumni, there are seven current senior Visual Artists participating in City Arts. “I want students to feel the entire experience, from creating the concept for their pieces to their viewing and selling in a public gallery” Mrs. Calderon said. Two of the many lessons she hopes her students learn are: how to assert themselves and how to appropriately price their art. The seniors not only created their pieces and artist statements, but were also tasked with creating business cards for themselves. The business cards will be provided for those who attend the showcase tonight.
The reception runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. tonight, and the exhibit runs through March 15th.
