Hamilton is Coming to Disney+ “sooner rather than later”
May 9, 2020
Fans of Lin Manuel Miranda and his popular musical, Hamilton, have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of Hamilton into their homes via Disney+. When this project was announced back in 2019 there was a lot of hype going around for it, but when productions of movies and TV shows began to shut down due to Covid-19 earlier this year, the fate of the streaming release of Hamilton was questioned.
However, in an interview on Live with Kelly and Ryan, Lin Manuel Miranda said that the release was probably closer than you thought. When asked about the production, Miranda said, “We’re still working on it…we’re putting the finishing touches on that, so we can all watch it together. It’ll be sooner rather than later.” He mentioned that since the video was taken in 2016, just weeks before he left the show, most of the editing that is being done to it now can be done online. There’s no re-shooting because the release will primarily be the 2016 performance video.
In the interview, he also mentioned that although Hamilton was still coming soon, his other works such as his directing debut on Netflix had been postponed. However, he was happy to mention that Netflix had “been amazing,” and, “paid our crew all the way through the end of the shoot.”
While this quarantine has had millions of people caged in their home, for some, news of Hamilton at home is a sight for sore eyes, as well as the art from Lin Manuel Miranda yet to come.
