On September 9, UPS announced they are hiring 100,000 people for full and part time job as the holiday season approaches.

With people stuck in their homes because of the COVID-19 pandemic, delivery service will be needed more then ever this holiday season. To prepare for the onslaught of holiday orders, UPS will boost their man power by hiring more then 100,000 people as package handlers, drivers, and driver assistants.

“We’re preparing for a record Peak holiday season. The COVID-19 pandemic has made our services more important than ever,”  Charlene Thomas, Chief Human Resources Officer, said in a statement on the matter.

People who have been struggling to get a job during the pandemic can now take this opportunity to find decent money in a short amount of time, the paycheck being $14.50 to $30 an hour. This temporary gig could turn into a career for some. It has been reported that more than a third of seasonal workers are later hired permanently. UPS even has a program for workers who are students to earn money for their college tuition.

FedEx, a rival delivery company, is also hiring more than 1,300 workers as package handlers for the holiday season. With these newly created seasonal positions coming available, many may be able to find new jobs and earn enough money to make it through this pandemic.
