“Witch Hunt” has Found Its Witch

Robert Muller’s special counsel has found a link between President Trump’s campaign and Russian Intelligence. The Trump administration dubbed the investigation a “witch hunt,” but Muller may have found a leak in Trump’s administration. Before the 2016 election, one of Trump’s campaign aides, Rick Gates, was knowingly in contact with a member of Russian intelligence. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has released a new memo stating, “Person A has ties to a Russian intelligence service and had such ties in 2016.” Person A’s identity has not been announced, but many believe it was someone tied to Gates. Muller’s investigation has prompted five guilty pleas and the indictments of fourteen others, of which thirteen are Russians.

Rick Gates was Trump’s deputy campaign chairman and later the campaign’s liaison to the Republican National Committee. Gates has pleaded guilty and is now cooperating with Muller and his team. The investigation began after foreign governments detected suspicious interactions between the now-President and Russia in late 2015. On July 31, 2016, the FBI began their investigation into links between the Russian government and Trump. The committee has concluded that Russia did interfere in the 2016 election, their goal to ultimately help President Trump and harm his opponent, Hillary Clinton.
