The Ellen Degeneres Show is a talk-variety show featuring host Ellen DeGeneres, accumulating millions of viewers since its first launch on September 8th, 2003. According to a report from The New York Times, recent data has shown that the talk show has drastically dropped 1.1 million viewers throughout the show’s 18th season, after toxic workplace allegations came out over the summer.

Following, accusations of racism and sexual assault against producers, Warner Bros. investigated the workplace and fired three producers as a result. “I learned that things happen here that never should have happened,” DeGeneres said in response to the allegations. “I take that very seriously. And I want to say I am so sorry to the people who were affected.”

During an interview, Warner Bros. executive David McGuire pointed out that the talk show was still one of the top-three highest-rated talk shows, suggesting that the COVID pandemic was a greater reason for the downfall of The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

According to Buzzfeed News, 10 former employees had reported that they had faced fear, racism, and intimidation while working with Ellen. The website then published a second report, with 36 former staff members of the talk show reporting allegations of harassment, sexual misconduct, and assault against producers.

DeGeneres released another statement in response to the accusations, according to Us Weekly in July 2o2o. She said, “On day one of our show, I told everyone in our first meeting that The Ellen DeGeneres Show would be a place of happiness — no one would ever raise their voice, and everyone would be treated with respect. Obviously, something changed, and I am disappointed to learn that this has not been the case. And for that, I am sorry.”

The Ellen DeGeneres Show still runs to this day and plans to run through 2021-2022. No additional announcements have been released on if the talk show will be stopped, or if it is DeGeneres’s last season.
