11-Year-Old Girl Injured in Drive-By Shooting
December 13, 2021
At around 5 a.m. on December 5th, 2021, shots were fired at a home in Houston, Texas. 11-year-old Vadyn King was asleep in her home with her mother, her mother’s boyfriend, and her two sisters at the time of the shooting.
According to a press release by the Houston Police Department, “The shooting occurred in the 900 block of Blanchard Hill Lane.” The suspects got to the home in an SUV and fled the scene immediately after firing several shots into the home. Bedroom windows were left broken along with bullet holes through the brick on the home.
No one else in the home was injured besides the little girl. No arrests have been made so far. Houston Police Department Commander Jonathon Halliday said, “We don’t know the motive right now. There is some surveillance video, but we’ve just initially reviewed it.”
The Houston Police Department says, “The vehicle, captured on camera in mist & foggy conditions, is described only as a dark SUV.” The most important information that was given to officials was that the SUV pulled up to the house and three mem exited wearing hoodies. They then entered the home and started firing multiple rounds before leaving.
When police were investigating the home, they found multiple shell casings inside and outside the house. King’s mother said that after the suspects were gone, her daughter crawled into her room, and it was then that she saw her bloody eye. Police say that King was taken to the Texas Children’s Hospital ICU with gunshots to her face and her arm. Originally, she was in critical condition but now she is in serious, but stable, condition. Her family says that her eyesight in her left eye could be gone.
A neighbor who lives across the street, Avery Washington, said that he knows all three kids and the woman that live in the house. He commented, “They are nice little girls, they’re quiet. They were really shooting because it was like over 100 something shots out here. It was terrible, really. When something happens like that with a little child getting shot, the only thing you can do is put prayers in for the family.”
