Bill Cosby Found Guilty

On April 26, after 14 hours of deliberation, a jury found former TV star and comedian Bill Cosby guilty of all three counts of sexual assault against Andrea Constand. Constand, a former employee at Temple University, accused Cosby of drugging and sexually assaulting her while visiting his home in 2004. Bill Cosby, now 80, could be facing three 10 year sentences of aggregated indecent assault; he will most likely serve them concurrently. Cosby shouted at the prosecutors shortly after the verdict was read.

This case marks the first celebrity sexual assault trail since the beginning of the #MeToo Movement began early last year. Gloria Allred, an attorney who represented some of Bill Cosby’s accusers, said “We are so happy that finally we can say, women are believed. And not only on #MeToo but in a court of law where they are under oath, where they testified truthfully, where they are attacked. After all is said and done, women were finally believed.”
