Disney World dropped their indoor mask mandate for vaccinated guests on February 17th. Visitors who are not vaccinated are expected to continue to wear their masks indoors, but proof of vaccination will not be required. The only indoor locations where masks are mandatory are on enclosed Disney transportation like buses, monorails, and the Disney Skyliner for all guests aged 2 years and older, regardless of their vaccination status.

This isn’t the first time Disney World dropped its mask mandate. On June 15th, Universal Orlando and SeaWorld Orlando eased their face mask mandate, followed by Disney World. The summer COVID-19 surge, which reported more than 73,000 new cases resulting from the Delta variant in just a week, had kept the parks on their toes.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention urged for the mask mandates to be returned. Disney World’s requirement for indoor guests to wear masks later returned on July 30, instructing that all visitors and cast members wear masks when indoors.

“As we have done since reopening, we’ve been very intentional and gradual in our approach to our COVID-19 health and safety protocols. Based on recent trends and regulatory guidance, Walt Disney World Resort will be making adjustments to these measures, which may continue to change at any time without notice,” the resort said in its statement regarding the new face-covering requirements.

Guests who choose to wear a mask still have to abide by Disney World’s guidelines. Face coverings that contain any sort of mesh material or holes are not acceptable to be worn in the parks or resorts, along with costume marks. Disney World urges for the masks of their guests to require being made with at least 2 layers of breathable material, fully cover the nose and mouth and secure under the chin, fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face, and be secured with ties or ear loops and allow the guest to remain hands-free.
