Comedian Michelle Wolf took center stage at the White House correspondents dinner this past Saturday, April 28. Her speech became controversial after she took aim at press secretary Sarah Sanders, Donald Trump’s children, and both political parties. Wolf stated that her primary goal was to deliver a specific message about the polarizing political climate.

Many believe that Wolf was bullying the press secretary and other members of the Trump administration as she took aim at their personal appearances. Wolf made comments about Sander’s eye makeup, “Like, she burns facts, and then she uses the ash to create a perfect smoky eye. Like, maybe she’s born with it; maybe it’s lies.” Some lawmakers called these comments “deplorable” and “despicable,” while others believe the routine was within the confines of the dinner.

Wolf also tackled controversial topics such as abortion and the media. She shamed pro-life advocates by saying, “don’t knock it ’til you try it.” Once again, her humor was met with backlash.

Wolf then continued her speech by focusing on the press. She stated that, even though the press is quick to comment on Trump’s actions, they are responsible for his success and have given him a platform. President Trump criticized the speech, expressing his belief that Wolf’s comedy routine crossed a line and was far too vulgar.
