With Thanksgiving break approaching, there are plenty of things to look forward to. Time to relax, eating tasty food, and… Deals Week? Deals Week is the umbrella term for several fall sales events, including Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Small Business Saturday. With so many deals everywhere you go, it can be tempting to over-buy- especially when it comes to crazy markdowns on clothes. But by using the advice in this installment of Fetch Fits, you can be the most stylish saver in town!

1. Make a List (And check it twice!)

Would you go to the grocery store with no idea what you need to buy and an empty stomach? Hopefully, the answer to that question is no. Plenty of people write shopping lists for groceries and school supply shopping- so why not make one for new threads? Sure, the latest collections might be super cute, but maybe you really need a new hoodie or new socks. You can also consult online catalogs or websites like Pinterest to pinpoint specific styles or items you want. While it might sound silly, consider making your own list the next time you have a shopping day. Make it pretty and sparkly, or just scribble it out on an old notepad. No matter what it looks like, your wallet will thank you.

2. Be Rational

Even with a list in hand, a big store with racks and racks of options can be tempting. But it’s important to know when to step back and think about the item you want to buy. Yes, Hello Kitty t-shirts are cute, but should you really be paying 18 dollars for something you only wear two days a week? How many different outfits can you make with it? Is it a sturdy fabric that’ll last you a long time? Consider these all these factors (and your budget) before you make the final buy.

3. Splurge… where necessary.

Shoes, jackets, and jewelry can get pricey- so deals week is the perfect opportunity to get these and other luxurious items. Saving money is important, but if you want something really badly, go get it! Everyone deserves retail therapy once in a while.  And what’s a better feeling than being able to say you got something expensive for a great price?

4. Gift sets, gift sets everywhere.

Okay, Fetch Fits is a fashion column, but a cute outfit deserves cute makeup, too! Holiday gift sets popping up are everywhere now. They can be a great opportunity to try out new products before investing in a full-size favorite. Many gift sets also contain famous or viral products, like Fenty Beauty’s lip glosses or the liquid blushes and lipsticks from Rare Beauty. “I love buying gift sets for both loved ones and for myself. They’re a great way to try new products and make someone smile,” says Reese Kanyuh, a freshman creative writer and self-identified Sephora addict. Consider picking up a gift set on your next department or beauty store visit and get some cute new makeup- or skincare, if that’s more your style.

With these tips in mind, you’ll be making the most of your money this year- and looking super stylish, too!
