As I enter my senior year, I find myself looking back at my time here at OCSA and on staff. In the past three years of being a member of The OCSA Ledger I’ve seen it grow and reach new heights. When I was a freshmen, we were a small mixed mode staff with a passion and dedication to the art of news. While our staff has changed a lot throughout the years, our dedication to serving the student body has never faltered. I’m honored to work alongside my fellow reporters and continue my role as co-editor of the newspaper for the 2023-2024 school year.
Last year I was nervous and unsure of myself, as it was my first year being co-editor and I questioned if I could be as good as the editors before me. Rather than receiving constant guidance from an editor, I became the one responsible for giving guidance to others. It was a difficult shift, one I overcame through perseverance and the support of my fellow co-editor, Halle Saldivia. Now having been through many trials and triumphs in my position, my confidence as a leader is steady as ever. I have bigger goals for the paper this year that I will work hard to accomplish.
I strive to be a leader my staff members can rely on for guidance as they shine a light on the artistic endeavors of our student body and events that impact our peers. My hope is to connect more with my staff through the year and build a community within our publication. I aim to use my knowledge and abilities to help them reach new heights as reporters and ensure they can continue the legacy of The OCSA Ledger after I graduate. As we look toward new beginnings and opportunities, my confidence in my staff and their ability to persevere through any challenges they face stands strong.
In the past, The OCSA Ledger has largely been unknown within the student body. This year my co-editor and I plan to bring light to our newspaper and the important things we report on. We want The OCSA Ledger to be a place our fellow students know they can turn to as a reliable source of knowledge on all things related to our school. Our hope is that students, parents, and faculty alike will come to know and appreciate our newspaper as a shining light of information about our wonderful campus.
Here’s to an amazing year,
Jillian Jenks
