As I enter my last year as not only a student at Osceola County School for the Arts but also Co-Editor for The OCSA Ledger, I’ve come to terms that I’m about to leave all that I’ve known for the last four years. It’s something that everyone my age realizes as counselors, teachers, and fellow peers prepare others and themselves for the thrilling life of becoming an adult.
However, coming to terms with this realization won’t mean I will be tranquil. In fact, more than ever, I’m determined to bring The OCSA Ledger to new heights, and leave behind the steppingstones that my successors will take as they enter their first year as copy editors.
While The OCSA Ledger has been established since 2012, it’s still relatively unknown to the student body we are dedicated to serve. This is related to the goal my fellow Co-Editor Jillian Jenks and I are determined to accomplish. We want The OCSA Ledger to be a source of news for the student body and an opportunity for them to showcase their art and talents.
In order to attain bigger goals, it’s imperative to set smaller ones that become the building blocks to our main objective as journalists. My personal goal this year is to get more articles published. Due a green staff last year, we didn’t have as many articles because we were establishing everyone’s basics. This year, I want to reach a goal of at least 35 articles published each month, providing our staff enough articles to cover everything our student body is planning to do this year.
We’re sure that these goals will be possible due to our amazing and dedicated staff. The staff of 2023-2024 is small, but they are the type to take initiative and flourish in high pressure environments. Alongside our copy editors, we are confident that this year will be The OCSA Ledgers’ best yet.
Kindly,
Halle Saldivia
Co-Editor, The OCSA Ledger
