The Florida Music Education Association (FMEA) is hosting the 2024 annual All-State Convention in January 2024. A total of 12 OCSA students have been accepted to perform for them. The following OCSA students will be performing on January 13 for All-State: Frankie Molineaux, Paul Roy, Brett Levin, Olivia Jones, Luis Fernandez, Venecia Rodriguez, Mia Guerrero, Solomon Geleta, Xavier Anderson, Rasha Chowdhury, and Joseliys Quinones. The FMEA is a non-profit charitable organization that supports music education in the state of Florida. This is a beneficial opportunity for students to showcase their music and collaborate with students from all across the state. Students must undergo an audition process in order to participate in All-State.
The audition process consists of preparing 2 musical excerpts, a scale performance, and a sightreading given to students when they enter the audition room. Students begin auditions in September and receive their results in November. Once accepted, the music they will be performing in December is sent out so that they can practice for the show. The conference takes place in Tampa, Florida. Students meet two days before, from January 11th- 13th, for rehearsals before the big show.
A student who got into the Florida Music Education Association Symphonic Orchestra, Joseliys Quinones, began preparing for the audition in Summer. “I’m overjoyed! I have heard so many great things about the Symphonic Orchestra, so to be able to participate and work with so many like-minded musicians and meet so many incredible people is amazing,” Joseliys shared in an interview. During her preparation, Joseliys attended many All- State workshops that were available for students to attend. These workshops allowed her to work with many professional musicians. All expenses are covered for performing students.
Congratulations to all accepted students. We wish you good luck and will be cheering you on!
