OCSA’s Latinos in Action club is hosting this year’s first dance, El Calenton, on Friday, January 12 from 6:30 to 9:30 PM. The dance will be hosted in the Expo Hall. All majors and grades are invited to come and celebrate this throwback dance. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased on MySchoolBucks and at the door. OCSA students are the only people allowed to attend this dance. Pizza and refreshments will also be available for purchasing once inside the dance.
Latinos on Action (LIA) president, Victoria Baez, has organized this dance to allow students to enjoy the feeling of nostalgia by playing iconic throwbacks of latin music. Hits by Maluma, Shakira, Romeo Santos, Bad Bunny, Rauw, Daddy Yankee, Karol G, Plan B, and more popular Latin artists are expected to be played at this event. This dance will also include games, dancing, and a learning experience for anyone is unfamiliar with Hispanic culture. Everyone is welcome, regardless of Latin or Hispanic descent, “This is an opportunity to share a bit of our culture in a fun way. Sometimes people are timid to come to events because they don’t feel welcome, but this is a dance where everyone is invited!” said Baez in an interview.
Come celebrate and dance at the first OCSA dance of 2024! You are encouraged to keep up with Latinos in Action’s future events on @ocsa_lia on Instagram. We hope to see you there!
