Grab something to write with, because Kaleidescope Cafe is coming our way!
On February 1st, OCSA’s Creative writing department is hosting the first K-Cafe of 2024! The event will be hosted from 6-8pm at the Expo Hall. Tickets will be sold for 5 dollars on MySchoolBucks.com. If you are interested in preforming, sign-ups will be held starting on January 15th in Mr. Capley’s room, portable 3. This year there will be twenty slots for performers, all of which are free. Though next year slots will be half of the original ticket price.
Kaleidescope Cafe, also known as K-Cafe, is an open mic night event, where performances are encouraged from all majors. K-cafe’s main focus is centered around creating an environment for artists both in and out of school. It’s believed that K-Cafe is only for Creative Writing majors, but it’s quite the opposite. This event hopes to give all artists across different majors a safe place to share their pieces. K-Cafe is all about giving people the opportunity to select and perform a piece they feel comfortable with.
Junior creative writer Jessica Vanderbeck, who has previously co-hosted K-cafe, says “My favorite part of K-Cafe is seeing people perform all types of art- even if it’s not something directly tied to their major. It really shows how multi-talented OCSA students are.”
Singing, dancing, writing, music, you name it! If you feel tugging in your heartstrings to sign up, go for it! Even if you don’t have anything planned, or prepared, stop on by, all are welcome! Once the performers are finished, any volunteers are welcome to perform a back-pocket piece. The possibilities are endless, but it’s up to you to go up there, grab that microphone, and spill your heart out to the audience.
Nobody is seeking perfection, nor are they seeking the outstanding. The audience and performers are there to hear you, and most of all to listen. No matter what you say, sing, play, or even dance, it’s for yourself, to be the artist you strive to be. K-cafe is here to give you that, a place where you can show your talents.
