OCSA’s Black Student Union (BSU) Fashion show is making an anticipated return for its fifth annual run.
At 6:30 PM on Thursday, January 18, 2024, multiple models are expected to walk the runaway with their own personally unique wardrobes, custom-made according to their theme. Taking place in the Expo Hall, the theme was decided to be Night and Day. Models are expected to build outfits from the inspiration of the beauty found within the night and day, along with their own personal flares added to their outfits. Admission for a regular ticket is $5, while the VIP package is $10. Included in the VIP package, you will be seated right next to the stage, ready to see fashion at its finest. You will also receive some goodie bags that come with the exclusive seats you reserved.
Throughout the week, models, tech majors, and officers of BSU are all hustling to get the fashion show up and running. As they undergo multiple meetings and rehearsals to organize themselves, many describe the feeling of “stressed” as an understatement. “The process of organizing the fashion can be quite difficult and stressful at times, but it feels so rewarding once everything is set,” said BSU’s Co-Secretary, Jolie Demesmin. “You see all the work that’s been put in by all the volunteers, models, tech and so on!”
To the members of the BSU, the fashion show is a very important event to showcase. According to BSU’s President, Julie Saint-Hilaire, the fashion show “is a great way for students, especially those of color to have an opportunity to showcase their personalities through clothing and just have fun with others free of judgement. Students in BSU often look forward to it and come up with ideas from the beginning of the year and I think that’s so special to have and to be able to experience.”
The Fashion Show is a wonderful opportunity to allow self-expression, something that you simply shouldn’t miss.
