You know what time it is! Black History Month has been in session beginning February 1st and will continue throughout the entire month to honor the impacts, contributions, and roles African Americans have played throughout history.
This year, OCSA’s Black Student Union (BSU) proudly presents its Black History Month show on February 29th at 6:30 P.M. Ticket prices are yet to be decided but will be available through MySchoolBucks soon. The show’s theme is “Black Individuals Through the Arts,” with aims to incorporate every major at OCSA.
BSU is a club at OCSA, but has become so much more with time by making a substantial impact with their numerous shows and events they’ve hosted. BSU was formed to educate students and give them a place to share their experiences. They welcome students with kindness in hopes of giving them a safe space without judgment. One of BSU’s main goals is to help students learn about their history and all of the amazing achievements people of color have contributed, all while having fun as a club and enjoying the time spent together. In this way, outside of class and school, we learn about the important roles African Americans have played throughout history.
Everyone in the club, along with the BSU board, Mr. Olivo, teachers, and students of different art majors have been working hard as a whole to showcase collaborative performances. “Collaborative performances are something that we have tried to get, and we are really excited to see how everything plays out. Anyone can be involved, however, our show is coming up soon, so anything added must be decided on quickly.” says President of BSU, senior vocal major Julie Saint-Hilaire. We hope to see you there!
