Throughout the last week of February, OCSA’s Black Student Union (BSU) has been celebrating big by hosting a school-wide Black History Month spirit week. Taking place from February 26th to the 29th, students have been able to dress down for various Black History oriented themes at no cost. On Monday, February 26, students dressed as a famous Black Celebrity or Historical Figure. In the past, popular options were figures such as Jay-Z, Rihanna, and Martin Luther King Jr. On Tuesday, February 27, students were encouraged to dress in BSU colors: red, yellow, and green. On Wednesday, February 28, the theme is “Sunday’s Best.” Students are supposed to dress in traditional church attire, or formal wear of their choice. Finally, on Thursday, February 29, it’s “Black Out Day” where students could wear all black clothing.
This week is meant to celebrate black history heroes and artists. It is a form of support to the black community. “Dressing up gives me an opportunity to express myself thematically,” said Junior Technical Theater major, Anglica Santiago. “I always look forward to these events; it brings a little fun to a regular school day.”
Students should have all outfits within school dress code. All grades and majors are welcome to participate. Come and join this cost-free event to celebrate Black History!
