Welcome back to Fetch Fits, everybody! Today I speak to you not as the all-knowing Fetch Fits being, but as Jess. Over spring break, I did something I don’t do often: I went on a trip! I went to Philadelphia for 2 days to got to the Philadelphia Flower Show and New York (both the neighborhood I used to live in and the city itself) for the rest of the week. I did lots of things, I ate so much good food, and of course, I bought a bunch of stuff. So, here’s what a fashion columnist bought over her spring break!
When my mom and I first arrived in Philadelphia, we got pho for lunch. There was a huge outlet mall nearby the restaurant, so we decided to go in. That mall had the biggest Forever 21 I had ever seen. I walked out with a big, quilted bag (which I ended up using a lot during the trip,) a fuzzy white sweater, and a black collared shirt that was 100% linen and on clearance. I also got some gray parachute pants from H&M. On one of the last days of our trip, we decided to make a random stop at our old neighborhood mall. Turns out, they have a Uniqlo now, and I got two really cute t-shirts I’m very excited to wear this summer.
My favorite day of my entire trip was the day I went to Koreatown and saw Six the Musical. The makeup store we went to before dinner was running a deal on sheet masks, so naturally, I picked up a bunch. Along with two lip tints, because like many teenage girls, I am obsessed with lip products. Speaking of my obsessions, I got a lot of stickers. Flower Show? I got stickers. The Line Friends Store in Times Square? I got stickers. The Met? Well, actually, I got a magnet and a pin. But I also got a sticker of William, the turquoise hippo that serves as the museum’s mascot. And of course, my mom and I brought back an almost comical amount of snacks.
So obviously, the city of New York had an impact on my wallet. But did it have an impact on my mind? Is New York really the most fashionable city in the world? Yes, but also no. It was still cold, and most people were still walking around in their big black puffer jackets. While most of the people were pretty drab, the window displays were anything but. “I was very fascinated by the window displays for luxury brands. They were simple, but still really elegant,” said Evelyn Tippett, a sophomore creative writer and my Co-Copy Editor that was also in New York for her spring break.
My trip to New York was a much-needed breath of fresh, cold air. I’m still in awe of how many things I did over the course of my visit, and I came back feeling very inspired to tell you everything about it. And whether you also went on a trip or just stuck to local destinations, I hope you found some inspiration over your spring break, too.
