Happy National Poetry Month! OCSA is celebrating the wonderful art of poetry this April!
For Creative Writers, poetry month means participating in 30 Days of Poetry, (aka Poetry 30-30), which entails writing a poem each day based on prompts given by your teachers. Non-writers participating are also welcome to write along daily, following the prompts or coming up with their own unique ideas. Something new this year added by Mr. Capley and Ms. Kastner, our creative writing teachers, is incorporating song lyrics as prompts to spice things up.
National Poetry Month allows writers to celebrate the art of poetry in all its forms. Amy Flores, a 9th grade creative writer, said, “I think that it’s inspiring me to try new things that I wouldn’t typically do.” Poetry has existed for centuries and is written and performed by people of all walks of life today. It’s a varied media, with everything from heartwarming odes to tragic epics. Experience the joy of sharing your feelings and thoughts through a lyrical or non-lyrical form. Celebrate the power of poetry by participating in Poetry 30-30!
