Being the Co-Editor of the OCSA Ledger for two years has taught me a lot. In journalism, there is no winning or losing. There is only trying your best to create an article that showcases the students, teachers, faculty, and art of our school. Our staff is the best we’ve had in a while. Despite only having 8 reporters, they’ve created quality articles that I’m proud to publish on The OCSA Ledger website. They are a talented group, and I know that they will only go up from here.
Our goal this year was to bring more attention to OCSA and what it’s all about. The Ledger is a dedication to the art of our school, and to not bring light to that fact, is a disservice. This year, we did just that.
Coming into my final year at OCSA, I only set one expectation for myself: show who you are. My staff can tell you. I’m not much for words, but I try my hardest to showcase who I am through my actions, whether its edits or advise for an article. I try my hardest to showcase who I am through my art and writing, and whether or not I accomplished that isn’t up to me, it’s up to thereader/ viewer.
So to those who have been following The OCSA Ledger, I hope you can feel the dedication our staff has to our school. I hope you understood our mission to bring the art of news to our campus.
I would like to thank my fellow Co-Editor, Jillian Jenks. You have been a great partner in this journey, and I couldn’t ask for a better person to work alongside.
I would also like to thank Evelyn Tippett and Jessica Vanderbeck, our copy editors. I hope what you learned this year will help you in the future. Best wishes to you both on your journey as next year’s editors.
I’d like to give thanks to our staff for being a driving force of our newpaper. Truly, if it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t have accomplished everything we did this year.
A special thanks to Amy Nicole Calvo, Editor-in-Chief of Atlantis Ablaze, for always being there for Jilly and me. I want you to know you have accomplished much for our literary magazine and you should be proud of yourself.
And finally, I would like to thank Mr. Capley for his guidance as not only the advisor for The OCSA Ledger, but as our creative writing director. Whether you know it or not, you have left an impact on all of us.
Best wishes to The OCSA Ledger, as there is only ever one way to go in life, and that’s forward.
Here’s to the future,
Halle Saldivia
