Every year, OCSA hosts its annual kick-off to another artistic year. The infamous ‘Gala’ is the first big event of the school, meant to introduce student’s first artistic creations to the community. Taking place on September 6, 2024 at 6:30 PM, students’ school-wide have been hard at work putting together this big show.
The event is admission-free, inviting anyone and everyone to enjoy OCSA’s artistic talents. As usual, all majors are expected to make an appearance with the exception of technical theater, who will be the ones organizing and assisting the other acts. The majors expected to make an appearance are the Orchestra, Creative Writing, Visual Arts, Dance, and Band departments. When asked about the meaning of Gala, the Band director, Mr. Molineaux, described it as a unifying event. “It’s a great way to start off our year and welcome our new students to the OCSA Family!”, said Molineaux. Under the instruction of its director, the band department’s wind ensemble is expected to perform ‘The Incredibles’ as one of the acts. Zachary Conidis, a Senior band student and lead percussionist in the band, described playing the tune as joyous. “Gala gives me a chance to practice my craft all while performing in front of everyone I care about. I get to share what I love with people I love,” stated Conidis.
School wide, Gala is known for its elegance and glamour. Every year, students are expected to dress with a similar ideology: dress to impress! All informal, casual clothing is prohibited in this event. Only formal attire will be allowed and accepted upon entering the theater. Since the beginning of school year, there has been concerns about the availability of the OPAC to be able to host the grand event. Since OCSA has been undergoing construction in various parts of campus, many believed that the event would have to either be postponed or relocated to a different area on campus. Thankfully, according to the technical theater director, Mr. Davis, that won’t be necessary. The current construction undergoing the school won’t disrupt any part of the show, including rehearsals or the event itself. This is how we incorporated this messy situation into this year’s theme. Under the title ‘Constructive Chaos’, OCSA attempts to make the best out of a rather uncomfortable situation.
As mentioned before, everyone is welcome! Don’t forget to come see this amazing artistic spectacular!
