OCSA’s National Honors Society for Dance Arts (also known as NHSDA) will be hosting a movie night here on campus on Tuesday, September 17th in the Expo Hall from 4:30-7:00 PM. The movie that will be shown is The Greatest Showman. Tickets are $10 on My School Bucks. Admission includes two slices of pizza, a drink, and a bag of popcorn. Candy will also be available to purchase for $1, but it is not included in the admission.
NHSDA is Dance Honor Society, which features a high school chapter and some requirements. You must have a 3.5 weighted GPA, some time dedicated in the dance program and good behavior in your other classes to be eligible to join. They host fundraiser events to support the dancers in their program. “The main purpose of the fundraiser is to raise funds for our chapter, banquets, and for class money to induct the students and have them graduate with honors, so that students don’t have to pay for their inductions fee and graduating with honors fee,” Ms. Perendy, the NHSDA sponsor, explained.
Last year, NHSDA hosted a movie night streaming La La Land. This is their second annual event hosting a movie night, presenting The Greatest Showman. These movies are known to be musicals that portray spontaneous movements and dance, which relates to their department. Dance Week is also hosted in the spring with the purpose to attract students to dance and experience being a part of what they do. There are still events to come in the future: “We’re doing some other new things this year which we’re excited about,” Ms. Perendy said. In November they will be bringing 5th graders to OCSA to promote their department and inform people about the opportunities of attending OCSA.
So, stop on by after school, invite your friends, and come watch the movie with us to support the dance department and its student’s here on campus.
