Mr. Rivera, one of OCSA’s beloved Visual Arts teachers is having his art showcased at an exhibit, running until October 10th at Valencia College. The exhibit is themed “Dystopian Paradise” and will be shining light on Mr Rivera’s art depicting, “…flowing matter, erosion, and atmospheric depth. It is meant to address ecological concerns in Puerto Rico… This exploration embraces a sculptural experimentation by addressing concerns related to place of origin, identity, social, economic, and environmental challenge.”.
He expresses his inspiration for his art comes from life itself. The experiences we go through and anything which catches his attention whether it be positive or negative. “One of the greatest motivations I have is to leave some personal contribution to future generations about my path through existence,” he expresses. Making a mark with your art is important. He believes everything in life which we see, and feel should be reacted to in any way we can. Art is life, life is art, both are around us constantly.
The inspiration behind this exhibit comes from Puerto Rico. For centuries PR has been exploited along with its residents for the benefit of unethical private enterprises and corporations that attempt to profit from its natural resources and the needs of the native population. He is excited to bring light to this through his art. Dystopian Paradise looks at the creative process Mr. Rivera went through while developing his thesis as a Master of Fine Arts candidate in Jacksonville University. He believes it to be one of his strongest proposals conceptually and medium wise.
One of the most passionate artists to walk OCSA’s grounds, Mr. Rivera, creates art which beautifully encapsules himself. He shows passion and pure personality in his art which drives others to think, love, feel, and experience every emotion all at once. Please don’t hesitate to visit Dystopian Paradise at Valenica College any time between now and October 10th.
