Senior Parent night is next Monday, September 16th, from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM in the Expo Hall! OCSA’s college and career guidance counselor, Ms. Gill, says some of the topics that will be covered at Senior Parent night are deadlines, college applications- such as FAFSA, Bright Futures, and scholarships- and events that are coming up.
She states, “So we [the counseling department] are going to cover senior timelines, what to expect during senior year especially for a semester where its heavy on college applications, we’re going to go over things that are pertinent to college and career… what are some things that seniors need to concentrate when it comes to the college application timeline- because it’s between now and November 1st when these priority deadlines are coming up- so we want to make sure parents are aware of what their senior needs to do so they can go ahead and support them. And then anything else that comes up senior year where it’s cap and gowns- how do we obtain them- senior pictures, yearbook information, how to keep with grades.”
For parents who are not able to attend, the information from the presentation will be posted on the OCSA website underneath the guidance tab at the top of the homepage. “So usually, we will post a PowerPoint, it’s just basic information, a little bit more interactive, but we know that sometimes parents are on the road or they’re working, and they can’t make it, so we’ll make sure that we can post those things on our website…” says Ms. Gill.
The event often includes a question-and-answer session where parents can address any concerns or get clarification on topics related to their child’s senior year and graduation. Senior Parent Night is a great opportunity for parents to gather information and ensure their student is prepared for the upcoming milestones in their student’s academic journey.
