Good Omens is a hit Amazon Prime show about an angel named Aziraphale, and a Demon named Crowley who defy both Heaven and Hell to form their own team and prevent the end of the world. It is based upon the 1990 book of the same name, written by Neil Gaimen and Terry Pratchett. The first season of the show was released in 2019, with the second having been released in 2023. Though there had been no confirmed date released for its third season, people were ecstatic when it was announced, less than a year after the second season, it was greenlit for a third.
The excitement they had was no surprise after the second season ended with (Spoiler incoming) the main two characters engaging in a (long awaited) kiss, just for it be immediately followed by a character making an out-of- character-decision for them. Aziraphale had a talk with a character named Metatron, an archangel. He plays as the voice of God, speaking on their behalf. He who doesn’t approve of Aziraphale’s distance with Heaven. He gives him a coffee in the middle of his asking Aziraphale to become the new Archangel, which fans suspect to have had some kind of potion to have made him agree to take the position on.
The show has paused production, according to Daniel Kreps, writer for The Rolling Stone, partially due to Neil Gaiman’s accusations of sexual assault from 5 different women. “On Wednesday, the site added that Gaiman offered to step away from his roles in hopes of reviving the third season, and that Prime Video was weighing the decision.” According to Deadline writer Lynette Rice, “…there are discussions about possible production changes. A spokesperson would not comment.”
Fans hope for the continuation of production of Good Omens. Whether it will happen, so far, remains to be seen.
