If you want to get more organized, upgrading your stationery is essential. But collecting stationery isn’t a cheap hobby- so how do you decide what’s worth buying?
First, consider what your courses require. Checking your syllabus is a great place to start, as they typically include a supply list. For instance, some math classes will provide the students with a class set of calculators, if needed but it is always good to have your own for homework, test day, or an off day when the class set isn’t enough for everyone. For Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and Geometry classes, a simpler calculator is what would likely be most useful and what would be recommended by a teacher. But for classes like Chemistry, Algebra 2, Statistics, or Pre-Calculus, a scientific or graphing calculator will be a lot more helpful. It’s also good to have a calculator that’s SAT or ACT approved, like the TI-83, TI-30x, and the FX-9750GIII. If a teacher recommends a specific calculator, even better.
Stationery fanatics know that not every item is created equally, and many products have been dubbed essential to a good stationary collection. For example, the Zebra Mildliners, pastel double-sided markers that are easier on the eyes than your typical highlighter, are incredibly popular. However, these can be quite pricy, at around 12-28 dollars depending on the type. But fear not: here are several more affordable options, like Sharpie’s S-Note collection or even the Crayola Pastel Erasable highlighters.
A similarly accredited product is a good notebook binder, like the ones made by Muji or Kokuyo Campus. While being able to move around your notebook pages and add more paper is convenient, these run about 10 dollars per notebook. If you’re just looking for something simple, a small 1-inch binder with reinforced paper will do the job.
Many people have different favorite items depending on their preferences. “My favorite stationery item is Sticky Notes, because there’s lots of different types of Sticky notes, like clear sticky notes or tabs and since I love filling up little pages,” said Skyla Nicely, a sophomore Creative Writer. Depending on the individual and the class, some items may work better than others. Finding what works for you is important, so don’t be afraid to try out different systems or items.
Overall, when it comes to stationary shopping, it’s crucial to research various options, no matter what you’re looking for. But above all, the most important thing about stationery is to find what makes you feel organized and excited about studying.
