Released on August 28th, Natlan is the land of Pyro and led by the God of War. With this addition of Genshin’s 6th and latest region comes deserts, jungles, mesas, volcanoes, cliffs, and canyons loosely inspired by Pre- Columbian American cultures- specifically the Aztec and the Mayan people, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Oceania.
Much to players’ chagrin, it is also a massive update. To be exact, it requires PC players to free 16-23 GB, PlayStation users to free 31-73 GB, and mobile players to have 2.7- 3.2 GB to spare. All this still doesn’t include all the data unpack required after the update, so those with low storage should be mindful before beginning their new adventures.
There are also several new important exploration and combat mechanics unique to Natlan. Among these mechanics are Nightsoul and Phlogiston. Phlogiston is like an extra energy/stamina for Natlan-related explorations. It can be filled up by triggering the Everflame Seed, touching a Flaming Seed of Phlogiston, collecting Candlecap Mushrooms, destroying Phlogiston Piles, or reaching a Teleport Waypoint or a Statue of the Seven in Natlan.
Nightsoul points (a stamina bar for exploration in Natlan) are consumed when you use a Saurian power or a Natlan character’s elemental skills. Three systems utilize Nightsoul points. The Nightsoul Blessing state allows them to move through the air, climb mountains, and surf on flat water. Nightsoul Transmission occurs when players switch to Natlan character in their party and deal elemental damage to an enemy. When the party has at least one character from Natlan, a team member dealing elemental damage will trigger Nightsoul Burst (a pattern appears on the screen); the more characters from Natlan are in the party, the shorter the cooldown. Nightsoul systems apply various buffs depending on what Natlan character is on field.
The current banner (Phase 2) from September 17th to October 8th features five stars Kinich and Raiden Shogun alongside four stars Chevreuse, Thoma, and Sara. The Ignition Teaser: A Name Forged in Flames showed various figures from Natlan, and one of the Fatui Harbingers, Il Capitano.
Other confirmed characters to look forward to are Mavuika, Iansan, Xilonen, Chasca, Citlali, and Ororon.
To unlock Chapter 5, Act 1 – Flowers Resplendent on the Sun-Scorched Sojourn, you must first complete Chapter 4, Act 6: Bedtime Story quest in Fontaine. Dainsleif says in the Teyvat Storyline Preview: “The rules of war are woven in the womb. The victor shall burn bright, while the losers must turn to ash. When the god of war shares this secret with the Traveler, it is because she has her reasons.” The final Archon Quest for this chapter- Chapter V- is titled Incandescent Ode to Resurrection. Version 5.1 of Genshin Impact is expected to release on October 9th, 2024, and with it, new developments in the storyline!
