Come join us at the OPAC (Osceola Preforming Arts Center) theatre to support our thespians in a Night of One Acts. The event is on Tuesday, November 12th, from 6:30-9:00, and admission is completely free. A Night of One Acts is a show of one act that’s performed by middle and high school thespians. Our school’s representing troupe, 6640, will be attending this event to present their work and be tested by judges. “It’s kind of like an MPA’s (Musical Performance Assessment) for band and orchestra and vocal, for theatre that’s what thespians is,” Mrs. Reeves, our art director explained. This is not competition based, and this event is meant for our artists to improve on their own work. The whole purpose of this is to ensure that our thespians get to go up on stage and show their talent to their audience.
This event is available to middle and high school, but for middle school you must be a part of the middle school program, and for high school it’s open to all departments.
The show will consist of three one acts performed by our troupe. The first show, “Appropriate Audience Behavior”, by Ian McWelly, will be presented by 6th grade in a 20-minute time window, 7th and 8th grade will be acting on the piece, “Everyone Gets Abducted by Aliens: A Cautionary Tale by Marshall Pailet for 35-40 minutes. The high school show will be showing the piece, “And” by Allan Haehnel in 40 minutes, which is more focused on a heavy mature topic. It’s a work of art that needs to be shone into light and highlight the situation being discussed. “If you’re middle school and you want to come, and mom and dad aren’t with you, you have to come and get a permission slip from me,” Mrs. Reeves explained. Along with these showcases, you may also be entertained with small pieces by other students.
So come and be part of the audience these students want to share a story with. Support the drama majors in troupe 6640 and their work and preparation they took to get here.
