Russian Police are investigating the suicide of Pavel Mateev, 15, who went into his yard Monday morning before he “switched on a chainsaw and sawed off his own head.” Russian media cited local sources saying that he was  heavily addicted to a computer game that his single mother had bought for him, and State-owned Russian television channel NTV reported: “A teenager from Tomsk region committed suicide after he lost a computer game.”

It is unclear what computer game he was playing at this point, but a female source said Pavel spent many hours at his computer and that his “nerves gave in after a game”.

The local office of the Russian Investigative Committee gave no further details on Pavel’s but confirmed a criminal case has been opened into incitement to suicide.

An alarming alleged statistic from a Russian newspaper claimed that there were 130 child suicide victims over a six month period, and almost all were members of one group or another online.

A Russian anti-cybercrime official warned of 1,339 online suicide groups that uncovered, each with an audience of more than 12,000 users.
