Mr. Capley, the director of Creative Writing, has been honored as the 2o24 teacher of the year!
Mr. Capley is loved by many students for his willingness to listen and help anyone who steps foot in his classroom. “Mr. Capley has inspired me in so many ways. He’s taught me how to expand my writing and think about things in a completely new way,” said Jaleah Ramos, a ninth grade Creative Writing major. Evelyn Tippett, a junior creative writer, says “Mr. Capley has definitely helped me improve my writing over the years. He’s helped me become more confident in the way I present myself, in the way I perform, even in the way I act around my peers. He has been the best influence on my life that I could ask for.” And Mr. Capley’s impact goes beyond his own students- he is well known for helping any senior, regardless of major, with creating the perfect college essay.
Typically, you can find Mr. Capley with his attention divided between a laptop with ten tabs open and a student in need of guidance- which made the group of jazz students celebrating his achievement with a surprise performance particularly shocking. When asked about how it felt to receive the title, Capley said “honored isn’t quite the word, but it’s humbling that people would consider me for such a thing.” Being given the title has drawn a lot of positive attention to both him and the department he oversees.
Mr. Capley said that he hopes to have a positive influence on his students and “provide a good example of working towards something meaningful and sticking with things when they’re tough,” a vision he upholds each and every day. Thank you, Mr. Capley, for all that you do!
