Now, while Florida certainly isn’t known for a heaping winter season, Gaylord Palms ICE! is an annual event that features more than 2 million pounds of ice to illustrate favorite scenes from beloved holiday movies through hand-carved ice sculptures.
For the first time ever, Gaylord Palms’ ICE! attraction will bring the holiday movie Elf to life. Tickets and special room-and-ticket packages for this event are now on sale, with prices starting at $29.99 for adults and $17.99 for children.
Guests will be transported to the world of Elf, where master carvers from Harbin, China, will craft scenes from the movie using over 6,700 blocks of ice, each weighing 300 pounds. These world-renowned artisans will utilize a variety of tools, from chainsaws to chisels, to shape the ice into sculptures, all in the span of four to five weeks. The ice is carefully colored with special food dyes to create vivid hues throughout the exhibit. A highlight of the experience is the Carver’s Showcase, where you can watch live carving demonstrations throughout the day. The ICE! journey typically concludes with a display of a Nativity scene, carved in a beautiful arrangement of crystal-clear ice.
The ICE! exhibit itself is a freezing 9°F (-13°C), so be sure to bring lots of warm clothing! A blue winter jacket is provided by staff for the duration of the exhibit.
Visitors to Gaylord Palms will also be able to enjoy additional snow-themed attractions, including the Snow Factory. This play area includes Snow Flow Mountain, where you can slide down real ice on an inner tube. Admission includes unlimited ice tubing rides for the day of the ticket. Additionally, the Snowball Build & Blast area delivers tubs of real snow, allowing guests to create their own snowballs and take aim at stationary targets.
