After years of speculation and months of leaks, Nintendo of America released a teaser trailer of the new and improved “Nintendo Switch 2.”
The trailer opens on a regular switch console that has its joy cons removed. The screen is increased in size and then the outer shell is stripped away, revealing a new matte finish for the outer shell. A brand-new kickstand is also revealed with the ability to sit the screen back much further than the consoles predecessor.
The joy-cons, which are infamous for their size and uncomfortableness, are larger now and magnetic! They are black with the colors of blue and red on the interior rather than being dominant color. In addition, while using the joy-cons as sole controllers, the side buttons have been made much larger, reducing any cramping that was present in the last system. It is also my understanding that the Nintendo Switch 2 will include a new magnetic joy-con connector which will replace the previous one for the sliding joy-cons.
While more features are yet to be revealed, Nintendo has revealed “Mario Kart 9,” which is slated to release with the new console later this year. The game will build on previous titles and may use any new features presented by the system.
The console still doesn’t have an official release date. The only clue is the year 2025 which is shown at the end of the reveal video, which can be found on YouTube, the official accounts of Nintendo, and the official website for the company. More news will be coming soon in the form of an upcoming Nintendo Direct, but one thing is for certain- Nintendo is back in the race.
