Since Inauguration, Trump has enacted several tariffs. As of Tuesday, February 12th 12:00 A.M., Trump imposed 10% on imported Chinese goods. This was hours after negotiations were made for Mexico and Canada to have a 30 day pause on any inputs of 25% duties on goods bound for the U.S. Donald Trump says that the tariffs were because of the fentanyl crisis in America. The crisis in the country has gotten out of hand, and that he hopes to prevent more chemicals used to make it.
According to John Ruwitch, writer for NPR, “Those include 15% tariffs on American coal and liquefied natural gas and 10% tariffs on crude oil, farm equipment and certain other vehicles.”Simenia Mistreanu, writer for MSN, also mentioned, “Less than a month after returning to the White House on Jan. 20, Trump slapped 10% duties on all Chinese imports, a move that’s expected to raise prices on goods including laptops, toys, and fast fashion.”
China responded to this by their finance ministry accusing the tariffs of going against WTO (World Trade Organization) rules, saying that they fail to address America’s problems and disrupt the economic and trade cooperation between the United States.China’s government has responded to these tariffs with ones of their own. According to John Ruwitch, these tariffs are “15% tariffs on American coal and liquefied natural gas and 10% tariffs on crude oil, farm equipment and certain other vehicles.” These tariffs have officially been enacted as of, Monday, February 10th, 2025.
It is unsure just how tariffs from Mexico and Canada on Americans goods will end up in the following month.
