Osceola Prosper returns for all seniors in the class of 2025 who are graduating in an Osceola County school. This opportunity pays for a 2 – year college degree that allows students to take up to 5 years to complete. Students are expected to finish their 2- year degree by Summer 2030. Students have the choice of Osceola Technical College or Valencia College to complete their chosen degree. This opportunity is extended to those in private, public, homeschooled, and charter schools. Students must enroll in either college by Spring 2026 and will automatically qualify for this scholarship.
First, seniors must choose between the two colleges. Next, they must complete the FAFSA form, where they will list the institute the chose. Third, they will register for the semester they will be taking and the final step is to simply send high school transcripts to the college after graduation. Osceola Prospers will take the money given to students by FAFSA and cover the remaining tuition total for the student. It will also cover any tuition Bright Futures doesn’t cover, making college completely free. To maintain this scholarship, students must take a minimum of 12 credit hours in an academic year, which include summer, fall, and spring term. Additionally, a maintained GPA of at least a 2.0 is required to keep the aid.
Karen Gil, Osceola County School for the Arts’ College and Career counselor shared her insight in an interview. She explained that this opportunity was perfect for anyone who is financially in need. It is a perfect way to begin a college journey and then transfer into a 4- year college. “Getting your pre-requisites done then transferring into a state university is a perfect option for students. It is also easier to get in since the colleges have agreements. For example, Valencia College has direct connect with UCF and agreements with other state colleges,” Gil explained. Since they won’t be looking at any high school test scores, this gives students a chance to showcase their hard work through a clean slate. They will have a new GPA to offer, their college GPA, and can easily transfer once admitted.
Moreover, it is recommended to start college in a community college where pre- requisite courses are easier to understand with smaller classes and more personalized attention, to then transfer to a bigger college where students can complete their degree. 2025 seniors are highly encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity. If you are unsure what major you want to go into, this may be just the thing you need to experiment through different courses and find your true passion.
