This year marks the 75th anniversary of the school holiday, Rodeo Day, on February 21, 2025. Beginning in 1944 with the Silver Spurs Riding Club, this was a program to boost the purchase of war bonds during the second world war, occurring in July. However, it wasn’t until a few years later when the holiday was moved to its February date, where it has stayed since 1951. It is a tradition that has celebrated the heritage of Osceola County and hopefully continue for years to come.
Just like years of the past, the Silver Spurs Rodeo will be in attendance, featuring cowboys and cowgirls who will facilitate exciting events like roping, bull riding, barrel racing and steer wrestling. It’ll be a fun day for anyone who decides to go.
Because of this holiday, we have the school day off. Whether you spend it at the rodeo, at home, or SeaWorld, make sure to spend it with the knowledge of why we have this four-day week.
