Drumming on the desk while listening to a lecture? Thinking of story plots during algebra? You are constantly surrounded by the art you love in your life; your academic classes see it an awful lot.
Whether it is a distraction or not, it happens. Just make it a happy happening!
Motivation is driven from your art, use that motivation to get your work done. “I try harder to finish and comprehend my math work so I can get home and practice new music,” says Diego Aviles Martinez, a 10th-grade band major. Excitement to practice or perform your art is drive to finish all the things you need, so you can do the things you want. It’s like peeling an eggshell to get to the actual egg.
Another way you can use your art in your academics is by using it as inspiration. You are in English class reading a story, grab an idea for your own story, poem, or song, create a tune to fit in one of its scenes, a dance fit to one of the characters, draw the cover for it, build up a prop that would go there. Every academic aspect of your life can work for your artistic, you just have to make it happen. You are what will help the bond between the two show.
Relating or using your art as motivation in your academics is something OCSA students benefit from the most as the two are connected at school. But do not think that the school holds this power, you do. Your words and actions will create your own future.
