The Republican candidate for Florida’s gubernatorial race, Ron Desantis, attended and spoke at a far-right-organized conference not just once, but four separate times.  The David Horowitz Freedom Center conferences are organized by a then left-wing activist turned alt-right operative David Horowitz in a mission to thwart “the efforts of the radical left and its Islamist allies to destroy American values and disarm this country as it attempts to defend itself in a time of terror.”

The story at it’s surface details Desantis’s involvement with the conference. However, the greater importance lays with the implications of the shared views of the conference attendees, Horowitz’s views. Horowitz believes in “reverse racism” and the race-war against whites. The notorious attendees, the likes of Milo Yiannopoulos and Steve Bannon, muck up the Desantis’s reputation by association. Granted, Ron Desantis’s does not help his with scandals like the heavily-reported “don’t monkey this up” warning.

Desantis’s spokespeople are passive-aggresive with the breaking news, saying that the candidate is “happy to be judge on his record” and that he does not feel responsible for the “views and speeches of others”, dangerous  as they may be.
