A collaboration between The City of Orlando and The Corridor Project led to the curation of the Corridor Bike Trail Art Gallery.
The Corridor Bike Trail Art Gallery opened on April 26 with Patrick Greene and his team from The Corridor Project leading a group bike ride/walk through the trail. It begins where Mills Avenue Meets Anderson Street, extending to Crystal Lake Drive and past Nilson Way. The year-long outdoor art installation displays the talents of local artists.
“Public art has the power to inspire, connect, and enhance the spaces we move through every day,” says Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer.
Ten signs mark the trail, the first and last saying “Welcome” and “Thank you for visiting” respectively. The eight box signs in between each feature different works of art; both sides of an individual sign have the same art.
The art in the boxes will be changed out each quarter of the year that the installation is in place for. New artists will be invited to join the gallery for an opportunity to have their work showcased.
The Corridor Project will be posting a Call for Artists for the next quarter soon. They are giving each artist an honorarium of $300 for their participation, and another $200 provided by Commissioner Patty Sheehan, adding up to a total of $500 per artist.
The artists featured in the first quarter are Chris Robb (Website), Stefan M (Instagram), Matt Duke (Instagram), Gisela Romero (Instagram), Emily Martinez (Instagram), Justin Luper (Instagram), Leah Sandler (Website), and Boy Kong (Instagram).
