Ms. Laurie Smith, a science teacher here at Osceola County School for the Arts, has received the Yale Educator award this year.

The Yale Educator Recognition Program began, as demonstrated by Ms. Smith’s award, to acknowledge educators around the world who inspire and support their students to achieve at advanced education levels. Of the 371 nominees, Ms. Smith is one of 59 teachers awarded nationally and one of seven awarded within the state of Florida. The winners have received, in addition to the award, an engraved desk set and congratulatory letters.

Ms. Smith was nominated by Jose Garcia–alumni of the 2018 graduating class– who received a full ride to the university. It was due to his letter of recommendation that Ms. Smith was nominated.
