Brett Kavanaugh Accused of Sexual Assault

Late last week, judge and Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, was accused of sexually assaulting a woman in his teens. Kavanaugh denies these allegations, but if they are true, he will be disqualified from the Supreme Court election. Both Kavanaugh and his accuser are set to publicly testify on Monday.

In July, Christine Blasey, Kavanaugh’s accuser, sent a letter to Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein about the assault. In the letter, Christine says that while at a party in the 1980’s, Kavanaugh and a friend pushed her into a bedroom and drunkenly pinned her to the bed. Kavanaugh proceeded to grope her and covered her mouth to muffle her screams. Many Republicans, like President Trump and Senator Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell are defending Kavanaugh. According to Trump, Kavanaugh is “One of the finest people anybody has known.”

Rumors about the letter got out on Capitol Hill, and when Feinstein’s colleagues asked about it, she turned it in to the FBI. Feinstein is currently receiving backlash from Republicans for keeping the letter hidden until last week. She revealed however, that Blasey was the one that wanted to keep it a secret. Many conservatives are working to prove Kavanaugh’s innocence, while liberals are supporting Christine.
