On Wednesday, September 19, 2018, a collective of OCSA students within the Speech and Debate club and the Debate class went to East River High School in hopes of not only competing but placing. Of those competitors, Caroline Centeno, Sophomore Creative Writer, won the first place trophy for the Lincoln Douglas debate.

As of September 22, 2018, Miss Centeno, along with her peer and fellow Creative Writer Justin Nazario, participated in the debate tournament at Bishop Moore Catholic High School. Miss Centeno placed third in the Lincoln Douglas tournament.

Caroline now holds two placing medals for the 2018-2019 Lincoln Douglas debates. She’s becoming quite the force to be recognized as seen through her achievements. After the tournament Caroline stated, “I worked really hard on my cases for weeks and placing first in my first tournament was amazing.”

The next debate tournament will be held on October 6, 2018 at Innovations Middle School. Miss Centeno has commented that she is excited for the next tournament, though she debates more for fun than to win.
