The red tide, which happens when there is a lot of toxic algae blooming in the water, has been spreading across the ocean surrounding Florida. The red tide causes respiratory problems and can also result in the death of birds, marine wildlife, and people.

The red tides have turned up in Palm Beach, Martin, and Miami-Dade County, and have caused some beaches in those areas to close down. There have been many reports of dead animals washing up on the shores of the beaches. Since a red tide on the east coast of Florida is rare, it is believed that the algae from the tides in the Gulf of Mexico were swept up by a current and brought to the east coast.
