On Monday, October 26th, the prime suspect for the recent pipe bomb packages made an appearance to a federal judge in Miami. Cesar Altieri Sayoc, 56 years-old, has been accused of packing and shipping out 14 pipe bombs to public critics of President Donald J. Trump. Law enforcement officials revealed that Sayoc had a list of over 100 possible targets.

The FBI searched electronic devices that belonged to the 56-year-old, they discovered files containing the addressed of all his intended victims, as well as the return labels for the manila envelopes sent to over a dozen victims. Daniel Aaronson, one of Sayer’s attorneys, has said his client is “innocent until proven guilty” when questions on whether or not Sayoc should reveal how many pipe bomb packages he sent into the mail system. Officials decline to say what they believe motivated Sayoc, but court records, his social media, and those who know him have made it clear that Sayoc was troubled and deeply partisan. Aaronson also added, “He remains innocent. And nobody has been able — in a court of law — to say that those were bombs that he sent. Therefore there is no reason why he should speak or possibly have any information to impart.”

Law enforcement officials found a list of over 100 possible targets, “to whom he wanted to send packages.” Officials said he was a working through this list, and it included the individuals CNN reported were sent packages. During his hearing, Sayoc told government officials that he was arrested in Plantation, Florida, and that the pipe bomb packages were never meant to hurt anyone, that they “would never hurt anyone.”

Cesar Sayoc is facing 5 federal charges and a maximum punishment of 48 years.
