Crime, Cringe, and Clout: The Decadent World of Instagram Daredevils
November 26, 2018
Instagram, among other social media sites, has provided a steady stream of reckless stupidity fueled by the attention of those who enable it. Countless Instagram Stars have risen to fame using only a smartphone and humiliating or harming themselves, attracting the attention of thousands of even millions of followers, outproducing the Paul Brothers in terms of extremity of content, whether it be pouring hot sauce or lime juice in their eyes or smoking various random foods or drink out of their bongs. The scariest part: These people make money off of it.
A key example of this Instagram phenomenon is Supreme Patty, a 20-year-old from Daytona, Florida, who’s page consists of various nonsensical acts, such as squeezing lime juice into his eyes and going snowboarding, landing him in the hospital. Patty was arrested back in October 2017 for allegedly starting a riot, shutting down Los Angeles. A released video shows Patty taken in handcuffs while the crowd chanted, “Free Supreme Patty.” Supreme Patty frequently and shamelessly advertises his merchandise and porrely designed jewelry, claiming they’re free while inflating the shipping price. Multiple sources suggest Supreme Patty’s Net Worth could be anywhere from 2 million to 4 million dollars, as of 2018.
Another strong example of the false celebrities of Instagram is the star formerly known as Boonk Gang, who, dawning tattoos that almost completely cover his body and face, capitalizes and profited from posting videos of seemingly staged shoplifting and robbery of restaurants and stores, all the while harassing employees and customers, before yelling, “Boonk Gang!” and escaping. Boonk Gang is infamous for flashing assault rifles on his channel, ultimately resulting in his arrest. Boonk Gang also received notoriety for posting pornography of himself having intercourse with a woman, with the videos being taken down soon after, but not after it was re-uploaded to porn sites and other social media accounts.
Boonk Gang has since changed his name at is showcasing himself as a sober rapper and is now going by the moniker John Gabbana. He discouraged other rappers from taking drugs and participating in reckless behavior, but it was not long after that he assaulted a camera man for allegedly disrespecting him.
Countless Instagram stars emerge from these two models, inspiring in the hearts of the unwashed masses to mimic this incredulous behavior in order to win them thousands of followers. These Instagram jesters have created YungBoyDan, who gets hundreds of thousands of views for trespassing and sledding down public staircases, and edgy rappers like Lil Tay and HolyGxd, all of them boasting their earnings and drug use.
The strange world of Instagram stars and daredevils creates a Jerry Springer Show atmosphere, giving followers the front row seat to the circus freak show that awaits them every time they open the app. Hopefully, for the sanity of us all, the followers won’t decide to jump in and join them, although it seems that the only stranger creatures than the Instagram clown themselves are those who sit at home and draw enjoyment from their antics.
