Michael Avenatti, the attorney for adult film star Stormy Daniels, critic of President Trump, and potential presidential candidate, was arrested Wednesday following an allegation of domestic violence, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Avenatti has denied the allegation, was booked Wednesday afternoon in the 10000 block of Santa Monica Boulevard by officers with the West Los Angeles station after police took a report on Tuesday of the alleged incident. He was released on $50,000 bail.

He was held on $50,000 bail on suspicion of intimate partner violence and was then released on bail later Wednesday evening. A court date has been set for Dec. 5.

When Avenatti was released, he briefly stated to reporters that ,”I have never struck a woman. I never will strike a woman. I have been an advocate for women’s rights my entire career and I’m going to continue to be an advocate. I’m not going to be intimidated from stopping what I’m doing.”

“I am looking forward to a full investigation at which point I am confident that I will be fully exonerated.”

In a statement later issued by his firm, Avenatti also called the allegations “completely bogus” and “fabricated.”

“I wish to thank the hard working men and women of the LAPD for their professionalism, they were only doing their jobs in light of the completely bogus allegations against me. I have never been physically abusive in my life nor was I last night,” the statement reads. “Any accusations to the contrary are fabricated and meant to do harm to my reputation. I look forward to being fully exonerated.”

His ex-wife, Christine Avenatti-Carlin, denied any suspicion that she was involved and also issued a statement of support through his law office, labeling Avenatti as a “good man” who “has never been abusive to me or anyone else.” She also stated that she had not seen Avenatti in months.

Stormy Daniels, the adult film star that Avenatti represents in a law suit against President Trump, stated that if the accusations prove true she will seek new representation.

Avenatti has previously stated that he is exploring a run for the Democratic Nomination for the Presidency of the United States of America in 2020, but The Vermont Democratic Party quickly scrapped plans to host Avenatti for a pair of weekend events, reported the Burlington Free Press, a member of the USA TODAY Network.
