CNN Files Lawsuit Against President Trump
November 26, 2018
Last Wednesday, CNN journalist Jim Acosta, was prohibited from entering the white house after he had an unpleasant confrontation with President Trump. The encounter took place during a press conference where Acosta persisted to ask Trump questions about the migrant caravan and refused to turn his microphone over when the president wanted to move on to the next reporter; this resulted in Acosta’s press pass to the white house getting revoked. CNN is now filing a lawsuit against President Trump, insisting that Trump has violated Acosta’s right to free speech as well as his due process rights when they revoked his press pass without his knowledge.
CNN has made statements about Acosta’s situation. “This president’s ongoing attacks on the press have gone too far. They are not only dangerous, they are disturbingly un-American.” The network has also said, “While president Trump has made it clear he does not respect a free press, he has a sworn obligation to protect it. A free press is vital to democracy, and we stand behind Jim Acosta and his fellow journalists everywhere.” On Friday, a judge ruled that Acosta’s press pass should be reinstated.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders, a white house press secretary, has also accused Acosta of getting physical with a female secretary during the conference when she tried to take his microphone away, however, video evidence proves that to be untrue.
