Come to The Festival of Lights!
December 3, 2018
On December 1st, the Osceola County School for the Arts (OCSA) Visual Art department’s 9th and 10th graders in cooperation with the National Arts Honors Society (NHS) members, will be driving decorative floats for the Orlando Festival of Lights.
The Orlando Festival of Lights, now called the Lights Fest, has been an annual event in Orlando for years. The Lights Fest is similar to the Indian holiday Diwali, however, there are distinct differences. The event’s purpose is to spread light in the world, most especially through the art incorporated in the decorative floats. This year’s event entails a Tropical Holiday theme, which further gets the idea of warmth and light to be shared during the holiday season.
Tradition holds that the event will end with the participants lighting lanterns and letting them float into the night sky. These lanterns are provided at the Lights Fest and for all the environment lovers, they are biodegradable. The rules are strict.
According to Ms. Calderon, one of OCSA’s Visual Arts instructors, it truly is an event for “love, happiness, and the holiday spirit”. For those who dislike the holiday season, she light-heartedly commented: “You could always go as the Grinch”.
Please go and support our Visual Arts department, but more importantly make a memory you will never forget.
