Funeral Plans and Week of Mourning Planned for Former President George H.W. Bush

Former president George H.W. Bush’s body will leave Houston’s Ellington Field at 10:30 a.m. CT today,and will arrive at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. An arrival ceremony awaits the fallen president at both the base and the Capitol building.

Bush will lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda Monday evening until Wednesday morning with openings for the public to pay their respects from 6:30 p.m. CT Monday to 7:45 a.m. CT Wednesday. A funeral service will follow Wednesday at 10 CT at the Washington National Cathedral. The former president’s body will then be taken back to Joint Base Andrews for transport back to Houston.

Bush’s will also be taken to St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston Wednesday evening with funeral services at the church, then the casket will be taken to Texas A&M University, the location of Bush’s presidential library. He will be buried at a family plot at the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum Thursday afternoon alongside his wife, Barbara, who died in April, and his daughter Robin, who died of leukemia in 1953 at age 3.

President Trump has designated Wednesday as a National Day of Mourning.
